Pre-orders are available even before Gamescom

Getting ready for Gamescom in Germany, Intel is starting to accept pre-orders for its next-generation Skylake CPU architecture.

The people at CPU World have already found pre-order offers at PC Connection selling its first Skylake Core i7-6700K. The new Skylake will feature new CPU architecture, improved graphics engine, support for DDR33L and DDR4 memory and substantially lower power consumptions. The first to be launched and apparently sell by pre-order will be the Core i5-6600K and i7-6700K quad-core microprocessors.

Both will be equipped with 95 Watt TDP, which is a bit higher than the standard TDP and it may require extra third-party thermal solutions. We also mentioned before that the new Skylake microprocessors are expected to offer massive overclocking potential. However, leaks prompted us to believe the thermal paste will be again sub par just as it has been on the Ivy Bridge series. Users have resorted on removing the standard NGPTIM and replace it with third-party paste manufacturers.

More Skylakes will follow with general prices drop

As we announced earlier, these two CPUs will see the light of day at Gamescom in Germany this August. Other models will quickly follow like the mainstream Core i5-6400, i5-6500, i5-6600 and i7-6700, as well as low-power Core i5-6400T, i5-6500T, i5-6600T and i7-6700T.

As the launch date closes in, online stores will start listing more models of unlocked and mainstream microprocessors in the Skylake like in US and Europe. Currently, the store sells 6 Skylake microprocessors that are out of stock with prices ranging from $211 (€189) to $394 (€354) having around 13% and 19% higher prices that the previous Haswell desktop chips.

Even though prices aren't considerably higher than the Haswells, it’s also important to remember that the market prices are usually higher in pre-order state and will most likely go down when the actual CPUs will be released.
