Remember PPSSPP? It's the best free PSP (PlayStation Portable) emulator software available right now, and today, February 14, 2016, it has been updated to version 1.2 for all supported operating systems.

According to the attached changelog, PPSSPP 1.2 is yet another great release of the project, bringing a ton of improvements and fixes for most of the issues reported by users since the previous 1.1 build of the open-source software.

Release highlights of PPSSPP 1.2 include 64-bit (x86_64) support for the Android build, much faster ISO RAM cache, AdHoc port offset, audio reverb support, 5xBR upscaling on GPU, a workaround for an ARM64 JIT crash, and the return of the volume setting.

While paving the way for support for additional graphics APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), the PPSSPP 1.2 release also includes support for Sora no Kiseki Kai HD Edition game, and minor interface fixes, such as better slider controls.

Furthermore, the sceAtrac audio decoding has received some attention in PPSSPP 1.2, fixing multiple "music hangs" issues. Then, the playback of video streams that have mono audio has been improved, and the prescale UV speedhack is more reliable.

Things like FBO management, stencil and depth buffer usage, and multithreaded audio mixing have also received improvements. There's also support for automatically hiding the on-screen controls after several minutes of idle time.

New UI lets users move the PSP display on bigger screens

In addition to all of the above, the PPSSPP 1.2 release brings a new UI (User Interface) that promises to let users move around the PSP display on bigger screens, along with support for the render-to-CLUT functionality used by some PSP games to modify the colors of several monsters.

Other than that, there are the addition of some custom touch buttons for pressing multiple PSP buttons, many under-the-hood fixes for FFMpeg crashes and other annoyances, as well as the addition of a GLSL shader cache for reducing in-game stuttering. Download PPSSPP 1.2 for GNU/Linux, and for Mac OS X, Windows, Android, and other OSes from the project's website.
