Sony is announcing that it is getting ready to introduce a new feature called Vote to Play for those who have a PlayStation Plus account for the PSN and a PlayStation 4 home console, allowing them to decide one of the video games that will be offered for free in the game collection.

The official PS Blog announcement explains that "The game with the most votes will automatically be included in our future free game lineup for PlayStation Plus. If your pick didn’t make the lineup, don’t worry. In the first promotion, PlayStation Plus members can get the runner-ups at a discount. We love to listen to our fans – and we’re super excited to launch this promotion."

At the moment, Sony is not ready to announce all the details about the voting process or the list of titles that gamers will be able to choose from.

The initiative was previously leaked in video form, but the official confirmation means that it will be going live in the coming weeks for the September installment of the PS Plus instant collection titles.

It seems that the Vote to Play initiative will initially feature some titles that were not offered on consoles before, including Grow Home from Ubisoft, which is at the moment only offered on the PC.

PlayStation 4 benefits greatly from the PS Plus

At the moment, the Sony home console is leading the rival Xbox One in terms of overall world sales and also manages to outsell it almost every month on the very important United States market.

The company has repeatedly said that its console is offering more value than the Microsoft one, and that includes the free content delivered for those who have the PS Plus service for the PSN.

Giving gamers a chance to actually vote on the titles that they will be able to get without paying is a good way of making sure that they stay engaged and feel that their opinions are valuable to Sony.

The company has said that it plans to introduce a range of new features to the PlayStation Network in the fall in order to make sure that the PlayStation 4 keeps its sales lead during the very important Christmas shopping season.
