The pace is higher than for the PlayStation 3

Sony is announcing that on November 22 of this year the PlayStation 4 has crossed the 30 million units sold mark, making it one of the most successful pieces of hardware in gaming history and showing that players are still picking it up at a solid pace.

The number was reached a little over two years after the home console was first introduced in North America, and it will probably get a significant boost in the coming month as a lot of customers pick one up during Black Friday and Christmas.

Sony says that the PlayStation 4 is selling faster than any other platform it has created and that the pace is not slowing down significantly.

Andrew House, the president and global chief executive officer, is using the occasion to express gratefulness towards all those who have picked up one of the consoles since November 2013.

He also states, "We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation."

At the moment, the PlayStation 4 is being sold for 359 dollars or Euro and recently Sony introduced a major 2.0 update for its operating system, introducing a range of new social and sharing features while also improving the overall stability.

Gamers who are interested in getting one of the devices can take advantage of a big promotion for Black Friday, which is offering a console as well as the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for 299 dollars or Euro.

A similar package that includes the new Star Wars Battlefront is also being offered by Gamestop, and other offers are also available.

PlayStation 4 leads the Xbox One in worldwide sales

Microsoft has not updated the sales number of its device recently, but most analysts believe that it currently stands somewhere around the 24 or 25 million units mark.

The Xbox One has recently managed to outsell the PlayStation 4 in the United States for the month of November, with its numbers boosted by the launch of Halo 5: Guardians, the next chapter in the Master Chief story.

Sony is not offering any new exclusives during the current holiday season and is relying on the association between its console and big launches like Star Wars Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which is delivering DLC on the platform one month early.

In 2016, the company is planning to finally release Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, the final chapter in the Nathan Drake story, a game that is expected to deliver another major boost to sales of the PlayStation 4.

Gamers who own a Sony console can also get titles like Street Fighter V, The Last Guardian, Horizon: Zero Dawn and possibly the new Gran Turismo.

Some fans also believe that a new price cut for the PlayStation 4 should be introduced before the middle of next year to keep sales up, especially if the Xbox One continues to deliver solid performances.
