The PlayStation 4 home console from Sony has once again managed to outsell the Xbox One from Microsoft, according to data from the NPD Group that highlight the hardware sales in the United States for the month of June.

Information quoted by NeoGAF shows that the overall value of the gaming industry has increased by 18 percent when compared to the same period of last year, and that hardware has managed to improve by 8%.

Sony has not said how many PlayStation 4 home consoles it managed to deliver during June, but it seems that the number is higher than during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is saying that it has managed to improve the numbers posted by the Xbox One by more than 50 percent.

The number of active Xbox Live users has also increased during the same period.

The NPD Group says that it has also seen an improvement of more than 20% for the Wii U and the 3DS combined over the first half of the year when compared to 2014.

Unfortunately, neither the tracking firm nor the platform holders offer actual sales numbers at the moment, which can be frustrating for video game industry watchers.

Batman: Arkham Knight leads video game sales

The software sector for the month of June is, according to the NPD Group, posting an increase of 21 percent over the same period last year.

Batman: Arkham Knight, created by Rocksteady and published by Warner Bros., is responsible for much of the increase despite its big problems on the PC.

The rest of the top ten is made up of:

- The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC;

- LEGO Jurassic World for the Xbox One, the 360, the PlayStation 4, the PS3, Wii U, Vita and 3DS;

- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC;

- Splatoon on the Wii U;

- Minecraft for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3;

- Grand Theft Auto V for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3;

- Mortal Kombat X on the PS4, Xbox One;

- NBA 2K15 for the Xbox One, PS3, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360;

- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on the Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC.

The NPD Group only tracks physical sales and the top ten might be different if digital distribution is taken into account.
