We reported the other day on the immediate availability of the Lumina Desktop 0.8.6 desktop environment for the PC-BSD 10.2 and FreeBSD 10.2 operating system, which introduces a great number of new features and under-the-hood improvements.

Today, August 5, we are happy to let you know that the PC-BSD team has announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Release Candidate version of the upcoming PC-BSD 10.2 operating system. Of course, Lumina Desktop 0.8.6 is present in this pre-release version of PC-BSD as the default and only desktop environment.

Based on the current Release Candidate (RC) version of the anticipated FreeBSD 10.2 operating system, PC-BSD 10.2 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is now ready for testing and includes numerous updated packages, among which we can mention the latest Mozilla Firefox 39.0 web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird 38.1.0 email and news client, as well as the Chromium 43.0.2357.134 web browser.

"The PC-BSD team is pleased to announce the availability of RC1 images for the upcoming 10.2 release. Please test these images out and report any issues found on our bug tracker: https://bugs.pcbsd.org," says Ken Moore on behalf of the PC-BSD team. "Users currently running the EDGE package repo can now update their packages via the updater GUI or “pc-updatemanager” utility to be brought up to date with RC1."
