The Parsix GNU/Linux developers have announced the release and immediate availability for download of the third TEST build for the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" operating system.

According to the release notes, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) TEST3 is powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.1.16 kernel, which has been patched with BFS and TuxOnIce 3.3 and has been built around the latest stable and most advanced GNOME 3.18 desktop environment. It also comes with updates for many of the pre-installed apps and core components.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (code name Atticus) ships with stable GNOME 3.18 desktop environment and an updated kernel. This version has been synchronized with Debian Jessie repositories as of January 07 2016. Parsix Atticus ships with GNOME 3.18 and LibreOffice 4.3.3 productivity suit by default," reads the announcement.

Here's what's new in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST3

Being synchronized with the upstream software repositories of the Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 (Jessie) operating system as of January 7, 2016, Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST3 upgrades the default desktop environment to GNOME 3.18.3 (with GNOME Shell 3.18.3), along with the X.Org Server 1.16.4 display server.

Among other updated applications in Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 "Atticus" TEST3, we can mention GNU Iceweasel 43.0.2, Chromium 47.0, LibreOffice 4.3.3, Empathy 3.12.11, Gparted 0.19.0, Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.30, GIMP 2.8.14, Grisbi 1.0.0, VLC Media Player 2.2.1, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.559, and Glibc 2.19.

Those of you who want to take the third TEST build of Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) for a test drive can download the Live DVD ISO images for either 64-bit or 32-bit hardware architectures right now from our website, write them on USB sticks or DVD discs, and boot them from BIOS of their computers.

The Live ISO images have been compressed using the latest SquashFS and XZ archiving methods. Please try to keep in mind, though, that Parsix GNU/Linux 8.5 (Atticus) TEST3 is a pre-release version, which means that it is not yet ready for deployment in production environments where stability is of the essence.
