Users are urged to update to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0

Two days after the announcement of the final release of the Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 (Mumble) operating system, the Parsix developers have published an important announcement for users of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 (Rinaldo).

Therefore, we are reporting today, September 16, that the Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 "Rinaldo" operating system will reach end of life (EOL) on November 14, 2015, and its official software repositories will be closed a week later, on November 21, 2015.

What this means is that the Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 distro will no longer receive software updates, security patches, and bug fixes starting with November 14, 2015. As such, all users are urged to upgrade to the latest stable release of the OS until that date.

Of course, those who don't want to upgrade to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 (Mumble), which is based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.0 (Jessie) operating system, will be able to keep their systems up to date thanks to the built-in binary compatibility with the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 7 (Wheezy) repositories.

"We encourage everybody to upgrade their systems to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0. If you are interested in keeping Rinaldo on your machines, please use Debian Wheezy updates and security repositories. Parsix 7.5 is binary compatible with Debian Wheezy," reads the announcement.

You should upgrade to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 (Mumble) immediately

As expected, the smart move here is to upgrade your Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 (Rinaldo) installations to Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0r0 (Mumble) as soon as possible, in order to have the best available support from the Parsix developers, who always add the latest software versions in the official repos.

Parsix GNU/Linux 8.0 comes with a great number of new features, among which we can mention the GNOME 3.16 desktop environment with the modern GNOME Shell 3.16.3 user interface, better UEFI support, Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS with the TuxOnIce 3.3 and Brain Fuck Scheduler (BFS) patches, and many updated applications.
