Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.4.5 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman informed the community about the availability of the one-hundredth maintenance build in the long-term supported Linux 3.10 kernel series.

Linux kernel 3.10.100 LTS is a very small point release that, according to the appended shortlog, changes a total of 27 files, with 334 insertions and 141 deletions. Most of these changes are improvements to the ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) software framework and drivers updates.

Among the updated drivers, we can notice the ones for the EDAC, GPU, MTD, USB, and ATA devices. Additionally, Linux kernel 3.10.100 LTS also fixes some issues with the JFFS2 file system, patches a bug in the CIFS file system, and repairs a couple of problems with the x86 hardware architecture.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.100 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Users need to update as soon as possible

We've been recently asked why there are so many long-term supported kernel branches, and a simple answer would be that some kernels work better with various hardware. For example, Google ships Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to its Nexus 5X smartphones with support for the same Linux kernel branch we're writing this article about, 3.10.

Therefore, we recommend all users of a Linux kernel-based operating system powered by kernel packages from the long-term supported Linux 3.10 series to upgrade to the 3.10.100 maintenance build as soon as possible. You can download the Linux kernel 3.10.100 LTS sources right now from the kernel.org website or via Softpedia.
