All users of the Linux 3.14 kernel series need to upgrade

Immediately after announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.4.3 LTS and Linux kernel 3.10.98 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman informed the Linux community about the release of Linux kernel 3.14.62 LTS.

Looking at the appended shortlog, we can notice that half of the changes in the sixty-second maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel series are updated drivers, in particular for things like Intel i915, iiO, IOMMU, Phy, SCSI, iSCSI, TTY, and USB. The rest are split among architectures, filesystems, mm, and core kernel fixes.

It appears that the Btrfs file system received various fixes, along with improvements for the CIFS, EXT4, devpts, UDF, procfs, FUSE, and NFS filesystems, but Linux kernel 3.14.62 LTS also includes small improvements in the security, sound, scripts, tools, networking stack (a single IPv6 change), and lib areas. In numbers, there were 78 files changed, with 519 insertions and 191 deletions.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.62 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Linux 3.14 users need to update as soon as possible

As expected with any new version of a Linux kernel, users need to upgrade their GNU/Linux operating systems as soon as possible, or as soon as the update lands in the default software repositories of the respective operating system. OS vendors are also urged to grab the new kernel version, compile it, tweak it for their distribution, and push the update to the software repos.

Linux Kernel 3.14.62 LTS is available for download right now from the kernel.org website, but you can also grab the source package via our website. If you're running a GNU/Linux distro powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.14 LTS series, you are urged to update to Linux kernel 3.14.62 LTS immediately.
