After informing users worldwide about the immediate availability for download of Linux kernel 4.2.1, Linux kernel 4.1.8 LTS, and Linux kernel 3.10.89 LTS, renowned kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman has announced the release of Linux kernel 3.14.53 LTS.

Looking at the diff from Linux kernel 3.14.52 LTS, we can notice that the fifty-third maintenance release of Linux kernel 3.14 LTS is a small release that adds a handful of improvements to the ARM, x86, and Xtensa hardware architectures, fixes an issue with the HPFS (High Performance File System) file system, and updates USB, TTY, CLK, GPU, HID, iiO, PCI, and s390 drivers.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.53 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.14 kernel are urged to upgrade

As expected, Greg Kroah-Hartman recommends all users of the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel branch to upgrade to the Linux kernel 3.14.53 LTS maintenance release immediately. OS vendors and advanced users who know how to compile a kernel can download the Linux kernel 3.14.53 LTS sources right now via Softpedia or from the kernel.org website.

Therefore, if you're running a GNU/Linux distribution powered by kernel packages from the Linux 3.14 LTS branch, you should updated to version 3.14.53 as soon as possible, or more precisely immediately after it becomes live in the default software repositories of your Linux kernel-based operating system. In numbers, Linux Kernel 3.14.53 LTS changes 33 files, with 226 insertions and 126 deletions. More details can be found in the mailing list announcement posted by Greg Kroah-Hartman.
