After the announcements of the Linux kernel 4.2.5 and Linux kernel 4.1.12 LTS updates, renowned kernel maintainer Greg Kroah-Hartman published details about the immediate availability for download of Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS.

According to the appended diff from Linux kernel 3.14.55 LTS, the new maintenance release of the long-term supported Linux 3.14 kernel series is a small one, bringing minor improvements to the ARM64, x86, and SPARC hardware architectures, updates to the built-in Nouveau and AMD Radeon graphics drivers, as well as to things like I2C, MD, and networking (PPPoE and USB).

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.56 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," said Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS also fixes a use after free error in the Btrfs file system, and adds multiple minor under-the-hood improvements, making the Linux 3.14 LTS branch more stable and reliable for GNU/Linux users who want to run on a long-term supported kernel. Last but not least, Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS brings a couple of networking (non-driver) fixes, for things like Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).

In numbers, Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS changes 31 files, with 181 insertions and 100 deletions. If you're using a GNU/Linux operating system powered by a kernel from the Linux 3.14 LTS branch, it is recommended that you update to version 3.14.56 as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can download the Linux kernel 3.14.56 LTS sources right now from either Softpedia or the kernel.org website and compile it yourself by hand.
