All users of the 3.14 kernel series must update

After announcing the release of Linux kernel 4.0.6 and Linux kernel 3.10.81 LTS, as well as the fact that Linux kernel 4.1 LTS will be supported for the next two years, Greg Kroah-Hartman published details about the release of Linux kernel 3.14.45 LTS.

According to the attached changelog, it looks to us that Linux kernel 3.14.45 LTS is a normal maintenance release that mostly updates drivers, especially for things like ATA, DRM (Intel i915), iiO, input, networking, Staging, TTY, and USB.

It also fixes issues with the x86 and MIPS hardware architectures, as well as with the Btrfs file system, and addresses multiple networking (mostly IPv4 and IPv6-related) and sound problems.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.45 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman. "The updated 3.14.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

All users of the Linux 3.14 kernel series must upgrade

As expected, Greg Kroah-Hartman urges all users of the Linux 3.14 kernel series, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) version that gets maintenance releases for a couple of years, to upgrade their systems to Linux kernel 3.14.45 LTS as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the update arrives in the main software repositories of their GNU/Linux distributions.

Experienced users and OS vendors can download the Linux kernel 3.14.45 LTS sources right now via Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website, whichever suits them best, and start compiling the kernel themselves. More details about this release can be found in the official mailing list announcement posted by Greg Kroah-Hartman on June 22, 2015.
