A new update for Linux kernel has been released

The latest iteration of the stable Linux kernel, 4.3.3, has been released by Greg Kroah-Hartman, making this the latest and best version available right now.

The 4.3 branch of the Linux kernel is a really popular one and it's been adopted by many distros. From the looks of it, the maintainers will continue to provide support for it, but it's not clear for how long. There is already a 4.1.15 version that has been declared long-term, so it's difficult to say if another branch will be tagged LTS as well, after such a short time.

As you would expect, Linux kernel 4.3.3 is not a huge update, but it comes with its fair share of driver updates and file system changes. Users are advised to upgrade to the new version, but most likely they will just have to wait until this version makes it into the repositories.

What's new in Linux kernel 4.3.3

“I'm announcing the release of the 4.3.3 kernel. All users of the 4.3 kernel series must upgrade. The updated 4.3.y git tree can be found at git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-4.3.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” said Greg Kroah-Hartman in his mailing list message.

If you are using any of the versions released until now, you might consider an update to the latest version. According to the changelog, support has been added for XS Stick W100-2 from 4G Systems, a couple of bug fixes have landed for the EXT4 file system, some Skylake fix-ups have been applied to the Broxton display codec, and the Kconfig dependency has been fixed.

A complete list of changes in this branch of the kernel can be found in the official announcement. You can download Linux kernel 4.3.3 right now from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that this is the source package, and you will have to compile it.
