EditShare, the developers of the Lightworks software, a cross-platform and commercial professional non-linear video editor for GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Mac OS X platforms, announced the release of Lightworks 12.6 Beta.

While the current stable release of Lightworks is version 12.5, the EditShare developers are working around the clock to fix some of the most annoying bugs reported by users, but also to implement various new features for the upcoming point release, version 12.6, which should be available sometime next year.

According to the attached release notes, the Beta release of Lightworks 12.6 improves the handling of edit notifications, making them safer, as well as the handling of projects that are incompatible with upcoming versions of the software. Moreover, there's a fix for an issue with the FX settings panel, which now correctly displays tracks on room entry.

Furthermore, a crash that occurred when attempting to drag a tile to an empty viewer has been fixed, and the Playhead feature will no longer cause any problems when rejoining files after they have been trimmed while an FX track is present. Moreover, a crash that occurred when attempting to export XML, AAF, EDL, or OMF file formats has been patched.

Mac OS X and Linux specific fixes

For Mac OS X users, the Beta release of Lightworks 12.6 addresses a startup failure that occurred due to the presence of AJA hardware, patches a crash caused by corrupt JPEG files when attempting to open the import panel, repairs a bug in Tiles and Viewers, and makes the panels appear behind the video image. On the other hand, a crash that occurred when attempting to export any format option has been fixed for Linux users.

Those of you who like to use bleeding-edge software can download Lightworks 12.6 Beta for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from Softpedia. Just please try to keep in mind the fact that it's a pre-release version of the applications, so it shouldn't be used in production environments.
