After having the pleasure of informing the world about the release of the massive LibreOffice 5.1 office suite last week, The Document Foundation non-profit organization has announced today, February 15, 2016, the general availability of LibreOffice 5.0.5.

As you might have already guessed, LibreOffice 5.0 is still in development, and today's 5.0.5 release is just a maintenance build that fixes some of the annoyances reported by users since the announcement of the LibreOffice 5.0.4 version back in mid-December 2015, making the open-source and cross-platform office suite more stable and reliable.

Best of all, The Document Foundation lets us know the 5.x branch of their popular LibreOffice office suite is now ready for large-scale deployment in big organizations and enterprises that have a smaller budget on office products or just want to save as much money as possible.

"The Document Foundation announces LibreOffice 5.0.5, the fifth release of the LibreOffice 5.0 family. Following the announcement of LibreOffice 5.1, LibreOffice 5.0.5 becomes the 'still' version (a stable version that has undergone more testing over a longer time), and can be used for the deployment in large organizations," reads today's announcement.

LibreOffice LTS remains the perfect choice for enterprise deployments

In their latest press release, The Document Foundation suggests large organizations as well as small- and medium-sized businesses to use the LibreOffice 5.0.5 and future maintenance builds only on large-scale deployments, which might be the perfect office solution when backed by professional level 3 support from certified developers.

The Document Foundation also recommends organizations to seek professional support when attempting to migrate from proprietary office products to an open-source solution, such as LibreOffice. Additionally, LibreOffice LTS (Long Term Support) remains the preferred choice for enterprise deployments.
