A new Release Candidate has been released

The Document Foundation has just released the second Release Candidate for the LibreOffice 5.0.1 branch and the developers have fixed quite a few issues that have been spotted by the community.

Now that LibreOffice 5.0 is out the door, it's time for developers to quickly close all the bugs that have been identified by the users. As you can imagine, a big leap like the one from 4.x to 5.x will be followed by a swath of reports. The good thing about LibreOffice is that it's an open source project and anyone can report the issues. If enough users mark the same problem, it will be repaired as soon as possible.

What many users don't understand is that the developers for Libreoffice are not hired and they are doing this work on their own time. So, if you report a problem that doesn't get fixed in time or it's not noticed, don't be upset. The Document Foundation is not making any money off this and they are providing one of the best office suites around.

What's new in LibreOffice 5.0.1 RC2

As you can clearly see, this is a maintenance update for the 5.x branch, so don't expect to get any new features. This release is here to bring bug fixes and that's pretty much it. This is also the last RC in the series and we should get the stable update soon.

According to the changelog, a crash that occurred when revisiting insert special character has been fixed, poor formatting of certain numbers has been fixed, the performance for some matrix operations has been improved, the Page numbering in the status bar has been refined, multiple page view now renders properly when scrolling, icon sizes in the breeze theme (KDE) are no longer causing the help and extensions buttons to not be visible, and a crash that occurred when moving a chart has been repaired.

You can download LibreOffice 5.0.1 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Please make sure that you don't run two different versions of the application at the same time and keep in mind that it's still under development.
