Lenovo’s phone business will be integrated into Motorola’s

Last year, Motorola’s smartphone business was acquired by the world’s largest PC vendor, Lenovo. Even so, the two companies continued to preserve their separate mobile divisions.

But a recent report has indicated that, soon enough, we can expect Lenovo’s mobile business to be absorbed by Motorola.

Basically, what’s going to happen is that Motorola’s management team will be in charge of the smartphones produced, with former Motorola president Rick Osterloh overlooking things. Nevertheless, Motorola will continue to exist under Lenovo, so Osterloh will have to report to Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuanqing.

And now, we get to take a look at what appears to be the first Motorola-designed Lenovo smartphone. Prolific leakster @Upleaks has shared a picture on its account (the post was deleted in the meantime) showcasing the alleged Lemon X smartphone, which has apparently been designed by Motorola for its parent company (as picked up from 9to5Google).

Or is it just another Lenovo Vibe smartphone?

Judging by what we are seeing in the picture, this might actually be the case. Notice the rounded corners and the Motorola-characteristic positioning of the camera. We can also spot the redesigned Lenovo logo sitting on the back.

Nothing else is known about the Motorola-designed smartphone. Lemon X might be just a codename for now, so there are high chances that the phone will go on to be sold on the market under a different name. Judging by the leaked image, we could be looking at a middle-range to high-end smartphone here, but this is merely speculation at this point, so you’d better take everything with a big grain of salt.

Even if Motorola is taking up the design of Lenovo smartphones, for us customers things won’t change dramatically. We’re still going to see new smartphones from Lenovo and from Motorola separately. But they just might look a lot more similar than before.

According to information floating around, Motorola has also been tasked with designing a smartwatch for the Chinese company. Lenovo doesn’t have any intelligent timepieces for sale at the moment, but it seems that this might change in the near future. Motorola is already pretty popular in the wearable world, due to its stylish Moto 360 smartwatch, which stole the hearts of many.
