Star Wars: The Force Awakens has not yet been released on Blu-ray after its impressive theatrical run and developers Traveller's Tales and publisher Warner Bros. are already preparing something to keep fans engaged with the franchise over the summer.

The two companies are currently working on LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the first trailer for the video game shows some of the core story moments from the movie as well as the way players will be able to enjoy the unique mechanics of the series in the new setting.

All the key moments that feature new characters like Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron and Kylo Ren will be featured in the title, but the studio also plans to introduce a number of new adventures that focus on the time period between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, although no details about them have been offered yet.

Traveller's Tales is promising more insight into the characters and the factions seen in the movie, which will be of particular interest to those who cannot wait for the next installment in the saga.

Playable characters will include: Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Han Solo, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, Kylo Ren, General Hux and Captain Phasma, and they will all be able to use a range of vehicles while exploring locations ranging from Jakku to Starkiller Base.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens also features space fights

The developers are planning to offer a new take on the multi-builds system, allowing players to use their bricks to create a variety of items and characters that can be then used to solve puzzles and advance the story.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will also feature new blaster battles and space dogfights that will feature some of the best-known vessels from the history of the franchise.

The Artificial Intelligence of the game has also been upgraded and can now use LEGO pieces to create Stormtroopers during battle by bringing in air cover or by adding powerful artillery to the battlefield.

The LEGO takes on the initial and the prequel trilogy have been widely appreciated for both their mechanics and their approach to storytelling.

LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be launched on June 28 of this year and can be played on the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, the PC, the Nintendo Wii U and older home consoles, as well as on the PlayStation Vita and the 3DS handhelds.
