14 DAY TRIAL // Korora is an unofficial Fedora Remix distribution that improves upon the original Fedora release and aims to make it better in any way possible. The latest Korora 23 is now finally available for download.
Improving upon the Fedora Linux distribution is not easy, but the Korora team is always up to the task. For a while now, each Fedora release has gotten better, so pushing out a remix of the original that's even better should be difficult. Some of you might also notice that Fedora 23 has been around for quite some time, but Korora 23 is only now landing.
It's also true that there are many official Fedora remixes, with all kinds of desktops, but they usually just change the vanilla GNOME desktop into something else. The Korora team goes a little bit further than this, and it's one of the reasons it seems to be late to the party.
Korora 23 is finally here
Korora 23 comes in five different flavors: Cinnamon, GNOME, KDE, MATE, and Xfce. They share some design commonalities, they have Firefox as default, custom desktop extensions (where applicable), VLC as default media player, third-party repositories, and a lot of other distinct features.
"For the last three months, we have been waiting for the RPMFusion repositories to be declared stable before releasing Korora 23. These community packages provide support for things that Fedora doesn't normally ship, like multi-media codecs and proprietary kernel drivers. Normally, the stable RPMFusion repositories are available a few weeks after a Fedora release, however, the community has moved to new infrastructure, and this has caused some delays," reads the official announcement.
As usual, here are the major desktop changes: Cinnamon 2.8, GNOME 3.18, KDE Plasma 5.5.4, Mate 1.12, and Xfce 4.12.
