14 DAY TRIAL // Today, March 29, 2016, KDE had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability of the first point release for the stable KDE Plasma 5.6 desktop environment.
KDE Plasma 5.6.1 comes one week after KDE unveiled the major, highly anticipated KDE Plasma 5.6 release, which introduced many cool new features, such as color scheme support for the Breeze theme, an improved task manager that now displays the progress of tasks, as well as media controls in the Plasma panel and tooltips.
Today's maintenance release of KDE Plasma 5.6 fixes a few small, yet important bugs that have been reported by users. Among the changes, we can notice improvements to the drawing of QtQuickControls ComboBox popups, better untranslatable string in the Activities KDE Control Module (KCM), and display of ratings in the Discover Packagekit backend.
"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.6.1. Plasma 5.6 was released in March with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience," reads today's announcement. "This release adds a month's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors."
KDE Plasma 5.6.1 now available for Arch Linux users
The KDE Plasma 5.6.1 update is already available in the main software repositories of the Arch Linux operating systems and users can update from KDE Plasma 5.6 as we speak. It should also arrive soon in the repos of GNU/Linux distributions like OpenSuSE, Fedora, etc, or you can download the binaries via our website.
The development cycle of KDE Plasma 5.6 will continue with four more maintenance releases, and the next one, KDE Plasma 5.6.2, should arrive next week, on April 5, 2016. KDE Plasma 5.6.3 is currently scheduled for April 19, KDE Plasma 5.6.4 for May 10, and the last one, KDE Plasma 5.6.5, for June 14, 2016.
