14 DAY TRIAL // Today, January 26, 2016, KDE has proudly announced that the fourth maintenance release for the Plasma 5 desktop environment is now available for GNU/Linux distribution vendors to compile and push to their default repositories for users to update.
According to the brief release notes, KDE Plasma 5.5.4 is a quite small maintenance build that only fixes some of the issues that have been reported by users since the previous point build, KDE Plasma 5.5.3, thus further improving the overall stability and reliability of the desktop environment.
Many of those small but important improvements have been about refactoring the position of the native notifications, making them appear in the right location when using the KDE Plasma 5 desktop on a multi-monitor setup. As you know by now, you can check out the entire changelog in the usual places.
"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to Plasma 5, versioned 5.5.4. Plasma 5.5 was released in December with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds a month's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors," reads today's announcement.
Next stop, KDE Plasma 5.5.5
The development cycle of the KDE Plasma 5.5 desktop environment will continue with one more maintenance release, KDE Plasma 5.5.5, which should be announced on March 1, 2016. Then, the KDE devs will concentrate their efforts on the next major release, KDE Plasma 5.6. The first Beta build will be released two days after KDE Plasma 5.5.5 sees the light of day.
