A new update for KDE Frameworks is out and ready

KDE Frameworks 5.13.0 has just been released by the KDE Community, and developers have made a large number of changes and improvements.

KDE Frameworks is the backbone of the KDE project, but it's also the one that gets almost none of the glory. Everyone pays attention when the Plasma desktop is released, but we should give KDE Frameworks and KDE Applications the same treatment. Sure, it's difficult to spot the changes Frameworks is manifesting, but that shouldn't make you any less interested in what's happening under the hood.

The KDE project has been split into three major components: Plasma, Frameworks, and Application. The reason for this decision was quite simple. They wanted to have a much faster release cycle, and it obviously worked. KDE developers no longer need to wait until a certain component is ready, they can just push the other updates out the door.

KDE Frameworks 5.13.0 is ready for upgrade

The KDE developers have been very busy, and they are sticking to a precise schedule. We had KDE Plasma 5.4 yesterday, and it is a glorious release, with a new launcher and a bunch of other cool features. Now we also have the latest Frameworks, which is not a development version.

"KDE today announces the release of KDE Frameworks 5.13.0. KDE Frameworks are 60 addon libraries to Qt, which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well-tested libraries with friendly licensing terms," reads the announcement.

According to the changelog, the Baloo file indexing and searching framework has been added, the Qt version requirement has been bumped from 5.2 to 5.3, a crash in directories-only file dialog has been fixed, HiDPI fixes for KLineEdit/KComboBox have been implemented, and a lot of other fixes have been implemented.

You also have to keep in mind that KDE Frameworks 5.13.0 is a sophisticated piece of software, and you really need to know what you are doing if you decide to compile it. You can download the source packages for KDE Frameworks 5.13.0 from Softpedia.
