A new maintenance update for KDE Applications is out

The KDE Community reveals that KDE Applications 15.08.3 has been released, marking the launch of a new maintenance version.

The former KDE SC project has been split into three parts, Plasma, Applications, and Frameworks, and this allows developers to provide much faster and focused updates for the packages.

The entire project doesn’t have to wait around for all the pieces to come together for a major release. This means that the project doesn’t have to wait around for a component that’s not yet ready.

KDE Applications might not be the most exciting of the bunch, but it’s an indispensable component, and it gathers all the applications under a single umbrella. This is just a maintenance version, so nothing really exciting is happening, but as usual, it’s a good idea to upgrade as soon as possible or when it’s going to become available in the system repositories.

KDE Applications 15.08.3 has arrived

"Today KDE released the third stability update for KDE Applications 15.08. This release contains only bugfixes and translation updates, providing a safe and pleasant update for everyone. More than 20 recorded bugfixes include improvements to ark, dolphin, Kdenlive, kdepim, kig, lokalize and umbrello. This release also includes Long Term Support version of KDE Development Platform 4.14.14," the devs said in the official announcement.

Some of you might notice the presence of KDE Development Platform 4.14.14, which is quite impressive. It’s part of the old version that is still present in distros like Kubuntu or Linux Mint.

If you don't find the packages available in the repositories, you can always download the source from the official KDE website and compile it yourself, although that’s not really recommended unless you know what you're doing. It's a very complex piece of software, and it takes some expertise to install it manually.
