When you’re someone as famous and as easily recognizable as Jared Leto, it’s hard to go anywhere without drawing attention onto yourself. If that “anywhere” happens to be a large comic convention, where you might get a feel of the anticipation around your next movie, the task becomes downright impossible.

Leto is playing The Joker in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” from director David Ayer, aka the first movie to make the villains into the main characters and the first big screen appearance of The Joker after Heath Ledger’s death. He played him in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” and won an Oscar for it.

So, hype around it is already huge.

Jared found the perfect way to attend this weekend’s New York Comic-Con 2015 without being disturbed: he made sure he blended in, by wearing a mask. He only broke the news to his fans after the fact, even posting a photo of himself and a dude dressed up like The Joker (see below).

Going in disguise to a comic convention isn’t something new, as many other celebrities before Jared have employed it, always with great results. This allows them to mingle with fans and get a pulse of the situation, but also to appreciate the interest in their next project.

What Jared did different is that he didn’t reveal himself until after the event was over.

#NYCC they had no idea :) A photo posted by JARED LETO (@jaredleto) on Oct 11, 2015 at 2:28pm PDT
