Makes it easy to zoom in when watching 4K videos

With the release of the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, Apple will bring back the video playback zoom feature removed from all its iOS devices with the arrival of iOS 7.

As Apple describes it, the playback zoom is designed to make it easier to focus on a particular area in 4K video while playing, a very useful feature considering that videos shot using this resolution have 8 million pixels, four times the number of pixels in an HD video.

Although at the time there were a couple of users who didn't appreciate the move, Apple ignored all requests they made on the Apple Support Communities website for an explanation of why the feature had been removed, and nothing more has been heard about this subject until now.

After unveiling the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models during the September 9 keynote, Apple published the specs for both devices on its website, and the long-forgotten playback zoom seems to have been reborn as one of the features it lists in the Video Recording category.

iPhone users will be able to zoom in a video only if they own an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus

Even though zooming in a video has been available in much older iOS devices prior to iOS 7, the resurrected "Playback Zoom" will only be available on Apple's iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models, with no support on the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and 5s.

As we found out yesterday, the iPhone 6s Plus will also come with optical video stabilization capability, yet another exclusive feature that no other smartphone from Apple's iPhone line will get.

We’ve requested further information on why the new feature will not be available on all iPhone models available in the company's retail stores, and we're still waiting for Apple to get back with an answer.
