Both have large displays and powerful chipsets

Apple stated during its launch event earlier today that the iPhone 6s Plus is the most powerful smartphone on the market, but Samsung claims the Galaxy Note 5 is better.

Even though it will take a few more weeks until the benchmarks reveal how powerful Apple's new A9 chip is in comparison with Samsung's Exynos 7420, it's worth taking a look at what both phablets have to offer in terms of specs.

If you're looking for a flagship smartphone and haven't decided which one to get yet, then the following spec-shootout might help you clarify a few things.

First of all, iPhone 6s Plus is a much larger and heavier device than the Galaxy Note 5, even though it sports a smaller display. The former measures 158.2 x 77.9 x 7.3 mm and weighs 192g, whereas the latter is 153.2 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm and weighs only 171g.

As mentioned earlier, iPhone 6s Plus comes with a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and 401ppi, while the Galaxy Note 5 boasts a slightly larger 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution and 518ppi.

New Apple technologies could be on par with Samsung's

iPhone 6s Plus' display features Ion-strengthened glass and oleophobic coating, but Samsung Galaxy Note 5 comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 coating.

Hardware-wise, iPhone 6s Plus is equipped with the new Apple A9 chip (2GHz dual-core CPU), which has yet to be benchmarked, but promises 70% faster CPU and 90% faster GPU performance than the A8 chip included in the iPhone 6 Plus.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 5 is packed with one of the most powerful mobile chipsets now available on the market, the Exynos 7420, which includes two quad-core processors, a Mali-T760MP8 graphics processing unit and 4GB of RAM.

In the camera front, iPhone 6s Plus has a 12-megapixel iSight photo snapper on the back, which features optical image stabilization, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, phase detection autofocus and 4K video recording.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 includes a 16-megapixel rear-camera with OIS, autofocus, LED flash and 4K video recording. Both smartphones come with 5-megapixel selfie cameras in the front.

Neither features microSD card slot or removable batteries. Speaking of which, the Galaxy Note 5 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, whereas the iPhone 6s Plus drains energy from a 2,915 mAh battery.

Also, both smartphones come with fingerprint sensors, but Samsung Galaxy Note 5 also packs an S Pen stylus. On the plus side (hopefully), iPhone 6s Plus features the new 3D Touch technology, which should offer and enhanced user experience.
