One week after their release, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus represent just 1.9 % of all iPhones available

A report published by the app analytics company Localytics on their blog reveals that, even though Apple has reported record sales for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices, the two newest iPhones are having an overall slower adoption rate when compared to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus released last year.

According to the data provided by Localytics, after being available in stores for seven days, the 6s and 6s Plus account for 1.9% of all iPhones currently available on the market, with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus having reached 2.7% a year ago.

However, even though the iPhone 6s doesn't outperform the iPhone 6 in terms of adoption rates for the first week of sales, the iPhone 6s Plus manages to score 0.1% above the older iPhone 6 Plus 5.5-incher. This comes to show that, despite Apple's reluctance to launch a large-screened iPhone, the customers want more of them each year.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus adoption rates follow the trends set by previous iPhone "s" releases

The slower adoption rates for the 6s and 6s Plus are following the trends established in the past by iPhone "s" editions, which are traditionally less demanded in the first week of sales, when customers are still trying to decide if the upgraded hardware is enough of a reason to cash out and buy a new iPhone.

Moreover, having released the 6s and 6s Plus, Apple has also decreased the price for the older iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which has translated into an increased market share for the older devices, the iPhone 6 going from 30% market share to 33.2% in a single week.

To gather the information above, Localytics has said that they collected data from 50 million iOS devices using their marketing platform and examined "the relative percentage of iPhones in the subsequent week after each device's release."
