The man suffered only minor injuries to his fingers

Reports of smartphones that explode or catch fire all of a sudden keep coming every once in a while and this time it's an iPhone 6 Plus that burst into flames right next to his owner.

Fox 5 revealed the story of Atlanta-based David Grimsley, who was sitting in his bed when his iPhone caught on fire during charging. Grimsley says he didn't actually notice the phone bursting into flames, but he heard his smoke alarm and then he instantly turned his look to search for the phone.

“There were sparks and flames,” he explains.

Since it was on his bed, the phone could have easily started a bigger fire, so what Grimsley did was to push the device off the bed to prevent the blankets from catching on fire too. From there, the burning phone fell on a carpet, so the owner pushed it once again on the floor where he waited for the fire to die out.

Minor injuries to his fingers

Obviously, such an incident could easily spark a bigger fire and burn the whole place down and Grimsley is well aware of that. That's why he quickly pushed the phone off the bed and off the carpet, he says.

“The whole apartment could have burned down,” he says.

The next step was to contact Apple and tell them about what happened. The Cupertino-based company quickly sent the man a new phone, but Grimsely says he was disappointed with this reaction.

"I thought they'd be more concerned, or check to see if I got burned or anything was damaged,” he explained. And yes, he did suffer some injuries, but they were only minor, he said. But now, he's afraid of charging his phone again. And that's definitely not a surprise.

"I'm kind of nervous about plugging it in and leaving it on the bed or anywhere it could catch fire. It could happen again," said Grimsley.

Most people usually decide to sue when their phones explode, but Grimsley hasn't said anything about a possible lawsuit against Apple. Good guy Grimsley.
