Apple’s new iOS 9 is currently in beta version

Apple unveiled iOS 9 during its WWDC 2015 conference a few weeks ago and said that the new build would also be made available for older devices such as the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5.

Now, if you look back into the recent past, you might remember that after iOS 8 was rolled out last year, it turned out that running this particular build on a phone like the iPhone 4s was quite frustrating and sluggish. Apple, for its part, tried to offer some improvements to make the whole browsing experience a little bit better, but it was still far from being perfect. So naturally, a question arises at this point: how will older devices perform under iOS 9?

A video posted on YouTube by Adrian Isen attempts to answer this question. In the clip, we see two iPhone 4s models, one running iOS 8.3 and one iOS 9 beta. Surely, we have to take into consideration that this is the first beta to have been released, so some bugs and issues are bound to be contained within, which means the final version could produce totally different results.

iOS 8.3 pitted against iOS 9 beta on an older iPhone

That being said, as you can see, the iPhone 4s running iOS 8.3 is a lot faster than the iPhone 4s with iOS 9. Surely, the new build will run much better on Apple’s latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and we have to take into account that the iPhone 4s is a four-year-old device, so it’s pretty amazing Apple is even offering compatibility with its latest software version.

A public beta version of the new OS build will be available for everyone in July 2015, but developers already have at their disposal the first beta of iOS 9, which we are seeing perform here.

iOS 9 arrives packing a variety of novelties, although the new software is focused on stability and performance increase. Some of the new feats you’ll be stumbling upon while using an iOS 9 device include Maps support for public transit routes, a redesigned Note app that is great for capturing ideas, a beautiful News app capable of delivering specialized content tailored on your particular interests, and so on.
