A new update for Intel Graphics Installer is out

The Intel Graphics Installer for Linux, a tool that allows users to easily install the latest graphics and video drivers for their Intel graphics hardware, is now at version 1.2.1 and is ready for download.

Intel is the only company that takes driver installers seriously. Neither Nvidia nor AMD can even touch that level of quality, but that's probably because Intel has been providing support for the Linux platform for longer.

The only problem with the Intel Graphics Installer is that it only supports a limited number of Linux distributions. In this case, it comes with support for Ubuntu 15.10 and Fedora 22. So, if you have pretty much anything else, you will have to rely on the versions from the repositories. It's been like this for a long time, and there is no indication that Intel is planning on supporting others.

"This release of the Graphics Installer requires Ubuntu 15.10 'wily'. There is no Graphics Installer for Fedora 23 in this release-- users of Fedora 23 already have a fresh graphics stack! Support is deprecated for Ubuntu 15.04 'vivid' and Fedora 22. No support is provided for the Graphics Installer on Ubuntu 14.10 or Fedora 21 as of this release of the Graphics Installer-- they are now obsolete," reads the announcement.

It's interesting to notice that the Intel maintainers have been quick to upgrade their tool. They usually release the installer towards the end of the cycle, but now they pushed it out the door really quick. It's also worth noting that Ubuntu 14.04 "trusty" is NOT supported. The developers have an explanation for this on the official forums.

More details about Intel Graphics Installer for Linux can be found on the official website. The latest version of the Intel Graphics Installer, 1.2.1, can be downloaded from Softpedia, but keep in mind that you will need to be root in order to make it work.
