14 DAY TRIAL // Following reports that the iPhone grew its share massively in the United States, Japan, and South Korea, retailers in Taiwan now report that Apple ranked as the top smartphone vendor in the country last month.
Citing data compiled by local retail channels, Taiwanese media reveals that Apple was the top smartphone vendor in December, both in terms of sales value and volume. The main reason for this uptick was strong demand for the iPhone 6, according to DigiTimes.
64GB iPhone 6 proves popular with Taiwanese customers
Much like in the US, Apple beat Samsung to a pulp scoring a massive 25.9% share in terms of sales volume, and 53.2% in terms of sales value. The report doesn’t mention Samsung’s figures (for one reason or another), but does state that “Samsung led the Android camp and took the second position, with HTC in third.”
The preferred iPhone 6 model amongst Taiwanese buyers was the 4.7-inch version with 64GB of storage, according to the same sources. This particular model topped the best-selling top-10 models, while the iPhone 6 Plus (also with 64GB of storage) was second on that list.
Looking at how these phones are getting snagged on a regular basis, the retail channel sources noted that “Sales momentum of iPhone 6 devices is expected to continue to the Lunar New Year holidays.”
If Apple sticks to tradition, later this year the company will be releasing another new iPhone model, the iPhone 6S, featuring upgraded internals and a similar (if not identical) form factor and design. Rumor has it that the company might deploy this upgrade earlier, making room for the iPhone 7 announcement in the fall. These reports, however, are highly unfounded.
