Consumer Intelligence Research Partners has released the results of a new study according which the iPhone came on top by quite a margin in the USA in November. The sales were mainly buoyed by strong demand for the iPhone 6, according to the research.

According to the chart displayed above, CIRP found that among the major phone brands, Apple had by far the largest share of the US market. The Cupertino giant was responsible for half of all phone sales (50%).

Apple and Samsung continue to duke it out

Josh Lowitz, partner and cofounder of CIRP, said that, “The strength of the September 2014 launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus fueled Apple’s dominance in US mobile phone sales this quarter. Apple had virtually double the sales of Samsung, and five times that of LG. No other brand accounted for as much as 5% of US sales.”

In other words, it’s a duopoly battle which Apple is winning by quite a margin. It’s not surprisingly, considering that Apple is registering these figures on its own turf. However, Apple seems to be calling all the right shots in the Far East as well. According to research done by Counterpoint, Apple recently grew its presence from 15% to 33% in South Korea, beating local vendor LG Electronics and edging closer than ever to Samsung, which currently holds 60% share in the country, after taking a 14-point plunge.

In the US, Samsung saw its share decline in the October-December timeframe. The study also found that 86% of iPhone 6 buyers upgraded from an older iPhone model.
