More issues for Apple to fix in iOS 8.1.2 / iOS 8.2

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Apple’s new software update for iDevices is heavily flawed and fails to address many of the ongoing problems for old-generation users.

A thread on Apple Support Communities that has been viewed some 20,000 times (at the time of this writing) indicates that iOS 8.1.1 fails to correct crashes and freezes associated with the new OS on old-generation iPads, including second- and third-generation tablets.

Not just iPad 2, but iPad 3 as well

A user identified as metaweb on the Apple forum says, “Last night my iPad 3 returned to its usual freezing and random rebooting that surfaced after iOS8 was installed. Also, multitouch gestures do not work .... so, in the end, 8.1.1 update did not resolve any of the annoying iOS8 issues with iPads.”

Customers like VinceCharming are even more upset over the issue, “I'm at my wits end with this, like a good little sheep I've followed all of Apple Technical Support/Genius's advice an yet here we are 2 months after the release of iOS 8 and I still have a non functioning iPad 2.”

He believes he’s entitled to a replacement, and adds that “If this isn't resolved soon I will be continuing this conversation via the Courts, because like any sane person (if you can call any of us sane for spending the amount we spend with Apple for their devices) I have had enough and am presently ‘NOT A HAPPY BUNNY.’”

Countless other user reports echo these people’s concerns, and that includes a separate thread dedicated to the issue. However, it is worth noting that at least some users have actually found comfort in the confines of iOS 8.1.1, as revealed here.

iOS 8.2 in the works

On November 18, Apple seeded iOS 8.2 beta to members of the iOS Developer Program with instructions to start coding Apple Watch apps that take advantage of the WatchKit framework.

There were no focus areas given for widely-reported flaws, like the ongoing Wi-Fi issues for some users, or the iPad rebooting / crashing bugs discussed in the paragraphs above. However, Apple usually takes care of bugs as it adds new features to its platforms, so it’s reasonable to assume that they’re looking into these issues as well.

On the down side, these betas usually take long to be released to the general population, so these customers might have a little more waiting to do. Which is certainly not ideal, considering that some people are downright addicted to their tablets and smartphones.

We’ll keep you in the loop with any new developments that may arise, including Apple’s progress with iOS 8.2 betas as newer builds roll out.
