New versions of the tech will be developed

Despite the impressive Minecraft-powered demo that was delivered during the recent E3 2015 event, it seems that for the first version of the upcoming augmented reality device, the company is focusing on enterprise usage for the platform and will not target gamers.

Satya Nadella, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, is quoted by ZDnet as saying that the company always wanted a dual focus technology and that, at the moment, he is amazed by the interest shown by healthcare companies, hospitals, and retail outlets.

Apparently, the enterprise focus will only be present for the first version of the HoloLens, which is supposed to be launched early next year.

The CEO has not said how quickly the company plans to deliver the second version of the technology and what amount of resources will be allocated to the development of the features of Minecraft and Halo 5: Guardians that use augmented reality.

HoloLens is not competing directly with the virtual reality solutions that Oculus Rift and Sony are planning to launch.

Microsoft has said that its own technology aims to add new experiences to already established fields and video games, without seeking to immerse the user completely in a new universe.

Nadella also talks about Minecraft

The Microsoft CEO also states, "I did buy Minecraft to create a new genre of gaming for mixed reality. We bought Minecraft for many reasons: because it's the number one PC app; it's the number one console app; it's the number one paid mobile app on iOS and Android. I wanted a hit game even for the new medium of mixed reality."

Recently, the company has announced that a special version of the game will be offered when the new Windows 10 operating system launches, based on the Pocket Edition.

The team at Mojang has pledged to continue to offer content for Minecraft on all platforms on which it is available and has also suggested that versions for the Wii U and the 3DS will be introduced.

At the moment, it is unclear whether the HoloLens experience for the game will be limited to Windows 10 or it will be offered for all versions that run on the PC, or even on mobile devices.
