Although not entirely unique in its features, since there are plenty of bike computers out there, the new Smart Bike Computer from Canyon comes with pretty much the same features as a smartwatch and can be used as a phone fixed to your bike.

Usually, when great effort is being done while riding a bike, reaching for your pocket, or even raising your arm to inspect your smartwatch becomes a great hurdle that most people would pass until they would be resting on the side of the street.

At the moment, bike computers that can give your speed info, miles travelled, Chrono and time are widely available and relatively affordable; however, none offers the flexibility of a phone or even a smartwatch.

Canyon has paired with Sony this time and came with a smartwatch design dedicated to bikes. Called Smart Bike Computer, it runs on Android Wear so the 1.6-inch touchscreen can display a bunch of popular cycling apps including Strava and Google Maps. It slides directly into your bike's stem without any cables or extra sensors hanging around you and it can connect to your phone via Bluetooth.

Useful and handy for all bikers out there

In addition, it has 8 hours of battery life, built-in GPS and has 4GB of internal storage, allowing you to store your favorite music on it and leave your phone at home. Of course, the new Smart Bike does not replace your Android Wear at your wrist but only places it on your bike's handlebars, and for some this is quite a feature already.

Unfortunately, this is not a production device just yet. Canyon still considers it a concept so it's no guarantee it'll hit store shelves anytime soon, if ever. But it must be said that at the moment the company hopes it will release the device probably in spring 2016 with a cost of about €200.
