Heroes of the Storm gets today, June 30, a major update that brings forth not only a fresh hero, in the form of the Butcher, but also a new map called Battlefield of Eternity, as well as a myriad of improvements, balance tweaks, and character overhauls.

Heroes of the Storm rolled out as a final game at the beginning of June, when Blizzard allowed anyone to enjoy the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena experience. Since then, the studio pledged to keep on releasing new characters and battlegrounds, as well as big updates designed to improve mechanics and tweak existing heroes.

The Eternal Conflict update is now live

Now, after some Public Test Realm tryout, the Eternal Conflict update is launching later today, June 30, after the game exits its planned maintenance period.

The major patch brings a suite of all-new features to the game, according to the official website, starting with a fresh character, in the form of The Butcher, whom Diablo fans will no doubt remember. As you can see in the Hero Spotlight video below, the new character is a melee assassin that can seriously punish lone enemies.

Besides the new character, the update also brings forth a new battleground called Battlefield of Eternity. The map is based on act IV of Diablo 3, featuring immortal warriors engage in a huge battle. Players must help their side's character defeat the other, and in exchange for their help, the winner will start walking down one of the two lanes, destroying buildings in their wake.

A host of other changes are also included, such as a Treasure Goblin Special Event Quest, which will randomly pop up for players. Like in Diablo 3, they must hurry to kill the treasure goblin that spawns in the pre-game portion of a match and they'll receive 100 gold.

A suite of interface enhancements are also included, but what's more important, a huge number of existing heroes have been tweaked to a bigger or lesser extent.

Significant talent changes are included for The Lost Vikings, Brightwing, Malfurion, or Rehgar, while many others have received smaller tweaks regarding some specific talents or heroic abilities that can be manipulated after death.
