The development team working on Halo 5: Guardians at 343 Industries has already announced that it is taking gamers to Sanghelios for the first time in the history of the series and that means gamers will have to deal with a number of new and more capable vehicles used by the forces that oppose them.

The story of the game involves a massive civil war which is tearing the planet apart, with loyalists for the Covenant and the forces of the Swords of Sanghelios each trying new ways to take out their enemies.

On the official site, the development team explains that combat experience and tech advances mean that the vehicles that gamers know from the previous installments in the series have evolved in some interesting ways.

The Banshee, or the T-54 Ground Support Aircraft, is based on earlier designs but has a range of new features, including a solid integral energy field.

The Ghost, or the T-54 Rapid Attack Vehicle, comes complete with more protection and better performance in order to make it better in ground assaults.

The Phantom, aka the T-57 Dropship Troop Carrier, is "crafted by Malurok Armory, the Kolaar Manufactorum, and Achoem Weapons to feed the ravenous war engines of the Covenant and Swords of Sanghelios draw their inspiration from aquatic predators found on Elite colonies. Design details that the San’Shyuum had always deemed . . . inelegant."

Finally, the Wraith, or T-58 Light Assault Gun Carriage, is nimbler and has advanced tech that ONI would love to explore.

Halo 5: Guardians will explore new worlds

Sanghelios is an important element of the game's universe and gamers will get access to a range of other surprises as part of the single-player campaign.

The tech advances of the world of Halo are also seen in the multiplayer side of Guardians, with Spartans that have access to a range of new powers, including the ability to sprint and to move around the levels in new ways to surprise their enemies.

Gamers will be able to take part in a new Warzone experience, which splits participants into teams and encourages them to take out both AI enemies and their opponents.

The Arena mode is designed for those who want a more competitive set of mechanics and introduces elements designed for an eSports audience.

Halo 5: Guardians will be out on the Xbox One on October 27.
