14 DAY TRIAL // Rich Jack, the developer of the Chrome OS lookalike Chromixium Linux operating system, has had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of Chromixium 1.5.
According to the release announcement, Chromixium 1.5 is here to bring numerous new features, such as Ubuntu's Ubiquity installer, the latest Adobe Flash Player and Chromium updates, as well as the first Service Pack update for Chromixium 1.x.
Moreover, the new Chromixium release updates the X.Org Server packages, adds faster right-click applications menu generation, includes the Cardapio menu as the standard dockable menu (available in Control Panel), as well as adds new HD wallpapers.
"I am very proud to announce that the first major update to Chromixium is ready for download. This release marked 1.5 is the first stable release to ship with the standard Ubuntu installer," says Rich Jack.
Additionally, Chromixium 1.5 replaces the PeaZip archive manager with GNOME's File Roller so that it integrates better with the Nautilus (Files) file manager. At the moment, Chromixium remains based on the long-term supported Linux 3.13 kernel.
Among other interesting features added in Chromixium 1.5, we can mention the addition of LXDE's Lxinput tool for left-handed mouse adjustment, the integration of numerous keyboard shortcuts, and support for booting the Live CD from HDD via GRUB.
Chromixium 1.5 requires a fresh install
In addition to the new features mentioned above, Chromixium 1.5 contains a new graphical utility that lets users enable autologins, as well as the chromixium-version command-line tool that informs users about the current version of Chromixium OS.
Existing Chromixium 1.x users who want to get the Chromixium 1.5 operating system right now on their computers are being informed by the developer that they need to do a fresh install or install the Service Pack 1 update through the official channels.
Unfortunately, the Service Pack currently contains many of the aforementioned features implemented in Chromixium 1.5, but not all of them, so we recommend downloading the new Chromixium 1.5 32-bit ISO image until more Service Packs are made available.
