Google’s highly anticipated press event is currently underway, and as we've been expecting in the last few weeks, the Huawei-made Nexus 6P has already been made official.

The Nexus 6P marks a lot of first-times for the company. For starters, it’s the first to be produced by Google in collaboration with Chinese device maker Huawei. It’s also the first from the lineup to benefit from a full metal body (aeronautical-grade aluminum, to be more precise).

Interestingly enough, the phone boasts a 5.7-inch display that is smaller than the Nexus 6’s, which it replaces. Being Google’s flagship for the year, the Nexus 6P offers QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) with 518ppi.

The Nexus 6P is running on a Snapdragon 810 v2.1, which might not be the best of news, but hopefully, Huawei has taken some precautions to prevent overheating from plaguing the new Nexus phone.

The handset also offers the services of 3GB of RAM plus a choice between 32GB, 64GB and 128GB of internal storage. Naturally, it comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The 6P might have the best camera in the Nexus lineup

Moving along to the photography department, the Nexus 6P impresses us again. The phone features a main camera of 12.3MP variety with great f/2.0 aperture and autofocus. Google mentioned that it uses an IR blaster to help with autofocus, something you’ll find on the LG G4. Furthermore, the selfie snapper is of 8MP capacity and f/2.4 aperture.

And once again, it's time for another batch of firsts. The Nexus 6P is the first to have a fingerprint scanner on board, one that Google calls Nexus Imprint and will help with paying for things using Android Pay.

The Huawei-made handset is also the first from the lineup to arrive with a USB Type-C port, although the search giant has already released a product taking advantage of a new standard in the form of the Chromebook Pixel 2.

Google says that the Nexus 6P will be made available via the Google Play Store, where it is up for pre-order starting today for customers in the US, UK, Ireland and Japan. More countries will be added in the upcoming weeks.

The 6P will start at $499 for the 32GB and will ship out to customers beginning October unlocked and without a contract. What’s more, Google wants to make things even sweeter by adding a 90-day free subscription to Google Play Music and $50 Google Play credit for customers picking up the Nexus 6P.
