A new version of Google's app is available for download

If you're a Microsoft enthusiast, you probably know that Google isn't quite the biggest fan of modern Windows, so with just once exception, there are no apps launched by the search giant on Windows 8.1, Windows Phone, or Windows 10, be it for mobile or for PCs.

The “Google” search app is indeed available in the stores, but just as expected, it doesn't do anything else than bring a search box on your screen and let you look for information online. This is pretty much the same thing that you can do in your browser, so it's no wonder that almost nobody uses it.

And despite this, Google has decided to roll out an update for its Windows app today, but contrary to what many people might be expecting, it doesn't bring anything new besides a new icon. The same icon that Google rolled out after Alphabet came to life.

The official change log published in the store also points to some “bug fixes,” but obviously, it's hard to believe that an app that simple can actually receive bug fixes because it's pretty much impossible for something to go wrong with a search box.

Google apps on Windows 10

As for other apps on Windows 10, they're nowhere to be seen, despite the fact that some people expected them to arrive in stores after the October 6 hardware event in New York.

Windows 10 for PC and mobile is said to be a huge step forward in terms of apps available in the store, and Microsoft itself tries to show developers the opportunity that's waiting for them to code for Windows, but big companies, including Google, are yet to make a move in this direction.

Obviously, everyone would love to have Gmail, Google Maps, or YouTube clients on Windows 10, but for the moment, the only thing we have is the official Google app and nothing more.
