Google has updated the app with a new, special feat

Just a week ago, Google officially announced Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the masses during its September event, while also revealing the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, the first devices that will ship out with the operating system on board.

Yesterday, the update started rolling out to older supported Nexus devices, but also to some first-gen Android One models in India. So Android 6.0 is slowly making its way to the Android population.

Also, device manufacturers like Sony, Motorola, HTC and LG have already confirmed which of their models will be getting the Android 6.0 update, so we expect the new OS version to arrive on more devices in the upcoming months.

And while we’re waiting for the update, we’re taking the opportunity to tell you that Google has updated Google Translate, so in Marshmallow you’ll be able to translate text directly from within applications.

Google Translate has just gotten better

Google is providing us with some telling examples, showing us that apps which support other languages than English, such as LinkedIn and WhatsApp, can take advantage of the new in-app translation features.

To translate a text, all you have to do is highlight the text you need, choose the language you want it translated to, and that’s it. Once you highlight the text, the result will pop up in a window via the Translate app.

Google says this feat should work in most applications, provided you have updated them. Still, there’s a chance that the developer has built in a custom text selection behavior, in which case the feat will not work, unless the developer switches to the standard Android text selection behavior.

The updated version of Google Translate is currently making its way to the Google Play Store, so if you’re using a device that has received Android 6.0 Marshmallow, you can go ahead and download it right now. If you haven’t been updated yet, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that you will soon enough.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings an extensive list of goodies you should be looking forward to, including Doze (a battery life optimization feat), selective app permission, and the new Now on Tap feature.
