The GNOME Project is currently working on updating packages for the second Beta build towards the GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, due for release later this month, on September 23.

As part of the second and last Beta build of GNOME 3.18, quite a few applications and core components have received updates, such as the Evolution open-source groupware client, which is used by default on numerous GNU/Linux operating systems.

Evolution 3.18 Beta 2 (technical version number is 3.17.91) is here to fix approximately ten bugs reported by users since the previous Beta build, such as parsing of attachments on demand, not during the opening of an email, and missing of "Add to Dictionary" entry when multiple languages were enabled.

There's now a workaround for a crash related to the e_mail_shell_view_update_popup_labels() function, it's possible to move recurring 24-hour calendar entries into a single day, as well as to focus the email list by clicking on empty parts of it, and the ESpellEntry function no longer relies on the Pango library for word-split.

Moreover, it is now possible to change the email composer between HTML and Plain Text modes without changing the font family, a structure issue that occurred when the delete operation was undoed has been fixed, you can now scroll in a standalone email window using your keyboard, as well as to use the "Cut" function from the right-click context menu when highlighting text in the composer window.

The EHTMLEditor component has received many improvements

The second Beta build of Evolution 3.18 email and calendar client also adds multiple improvements to the EHTMLEditor component, especially for EHTMLEditorSelection and EHTMLEditorView. Among these, we can mention the ability to save the history of the delete function, removal of unneeded code, as well as to connect HTML event handlers after converting composer content.

Last but not least, users will now be able to open an email in a new window by pressing the Enter key in a message window. The Galician, Spanish, Catalan, Slovak, French, Traditional Chinese, and Hungarian language translations have been updated. Download Evolution 3.18 Beta 2 (3.17.91) right now from Softpedia. Please note that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
