14 DAY TRIAL // The development team behind the GNOME Project is hard at work these days to bring you the fourth snapshot of the anticipated GNOME 3.18 desktop environment, due for release on September 23, 2015.
The open-source and cross-platform GTK+ GUI toolkit has been updated to version 3.17.5 as part of the forthcoming GNOME 3.17.4 desktop environment release and it introduces a bunch of new features and improvements that I will list in the next paragraphs.
First of all, it is of the essence to mention here that GTK+ 3.17.5 brings multiple fixes and improvements to Canonica's next-generation Mir display server, introduces support for windows with a fixed aspect ratio for the Mac OS X platform, adds support for minimizing windows on Broadway, and repairs X11 rendering stalls when using GTK+ app over remote SSH connections.
There are also several improvements to the next-generation Wayland display servers, such as cursor handling fixes in HIDPI, improved drag-and-drop and copy/paste functionality, as well as the ability to ignore size increments for full-screen and maximized windows.
Several new and improved examples were added to gtk-demo, support for font maps and per-widget font options was introduced, there's initial support for CSS text-decoration, CSS letter-spacing is now supported for both entries and labels, and a new slider-height style property was added to GtkSwitch to make it possible to switch squares.
GtkFileChooser and GtkScrolledWindow were greatly improved
In addition to all the changes mentioned above, GTK+ 3.17.5 brings numerous improvements to the GtkFileChooser and GtkScrolledWindow components, updates the Czech, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovak, and Spanish translations, and fixes numerous bugs.
