This is the second wearable of the year for Fitbit

After announcing Blaze earlier this year, Fitbit continues its release spree with a new model that’s trying to impress not only with its fitness tracking features but also with fresh looks that are supposed to match any outfit.

Called Alta, the new Fitbit device looks like an evolved version of the Flex and comes with a monochrome OLED display to show all necessary information regarding your exercises.

Basically, Fitbit says that this isn’t the kind of device aimed at hardcore athletes, but at those who just want to stay fit, so if you’re working for a large corporation, the chances are that this is the right activity tracker for you.

The Alta doesn’t bring too many new things as compared to its predecessors, but it can provide you with notifications to get up and exercise when you’re sitting for too long. This is a feature already available on the Apple Watch (and starting recently on the Microsoft Band too), but it’s clearly a neat addition for the fitness tracker. It can work with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and according to Fitbit, it supports notifications for calls, text, and calendars via a soft vibration.

Obviously, it includes support for the majority of sports, such as running, biking, and workouts, and everything can be controlled with the companion app available on your phone.

At the same time, it also features Blaze’s SmartTrack, which automatically recognizes exercises to collect the right statistics. And as expected, you benefit from automatic sleep tracking and all-day activity stats, just like the typical Fitbit device.

The device, however, also lacks two important things that fitness trackers come with these days, such as a heart rate sensor and GPS. But on the other hand, the absence of these features makes the battery last longer, which, according to Fitbit, should provide up to five days per charge.

It’s designed to look good

But in the end, it’s all about the looks, so you can choose from several bands, including the standard rubber bands, but also a leather and a stainless steel version.

“Fitbit Alta will turn heads as our most fashionable device yet. The attractive, versatile design of this new fitness tracker fits seamlessly into daily life - from the gym to the office to a night out,” said James Park , CEO and Co-Founder of Fitbit.

“Alta features the everyday tracking Fitbit is known for, along with innovative and purpose-built features that push users to do more. Paired with our large, engaged global social community, Alta is an exciting product for everyday users who are looking for a simple way to stay motivated and connected, that also fits with their personal style.”

The device will go on sale in the US and worldwide in March and April, respectively, with a price of $129.95 (€110). The leather band will cost an extra of $60 (€55) while the stainless steel version will be available for $99.95 (€85).
