After releasing the huge LibreOffice 5.0 update, The Document Foundation announced that the hard team of developers behind the most powerful open-source office suite in the world is hard at work on the first maintenance release of LibreOffice 5.0.0.

Therefore, we can report that the first Release Candidate of the forthcoming LibreOffice 5.0.1 office suite has been published along with a massive changelog that shows us what the LibreOffice developers have been working on in the last couple of weeks.

The LibreOffice 5.0.1 update will include a great number of changes, mostly fixes for bugs reported by users or discovered by the LibreOffice developers since the release of the LibreOffice 5.0.0 office suite. The first Release Candidate (RC) version includes over 50 bugfixes.

Among the most important changes, we can mention reduced power consumption, fixed a crash that occurred when opening an ODP file, fixed a crash that occurred on the Windows platform when accessing Web Pages under File -> Wizards, and made the Undo function work when modifying a certain conditional style.

The "Text Background Color in Draw" feature now has a user interface, importing of OOXML documents that have attached DOCX files has been improved, the import of RTF documents has been improved as well, it is now possible to copy forms again, and the mouse middle-click paste functionality now works correctly under X11.

Users can test the first Release Candidate on Linux, OS X, and Windows

As expected, the LibreOffice 5.0.1 RC1 changelog includes a great number of changes that cannot be mentioned here, but promise to improve the overall stability, security, and performance of the application on all supported platforms. If you're curious to see what exactly has been changed, check out the changelog attached at the end of the article.

Those of you who want to test the first RC release of the upcoming LibreOffice 5.0.1 office suite can download it right now for GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems via Softpedia. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version that contains known issues, so we don't recommend installing it on production environments.
