It has been a while since we last heard something from the development team of the File Roller archive manager, which is used by default in the GNOME desktop environment and any GNU/Linux operating system that uses the GNOME Stack.

File Roller 3.20 entered development for the upcoming GNOME 3.20 desktop environment just a while ago, and its development team managed to release the first milestone a couple of days ago. As usual, we have managed to get our hands on the internal changelog for File Roller 3.19.1 to share with our readers some details about the newly implemented features.

Therefore, for File Roller 3.20, the development team added support for .click package, which are used by Canonical in the Ubuntu Touch operating system, implemented support for the Nautilus (Files) file manager to select the extracted file, revamped the "Update Files" dialog, added support for displaying the extraction results in a message dialog, and removed the "Quit" button from the confirmation dialog.

File Roller 3.19.1 fixes multiple bugs reported by users since the previous version of the software and updates various language translations (see below for details). Among the bugfixes and under-the-hood improvements, we can mention that multiple memory leaks were plugged, and Kudos were added for AppData.

More bugfixes, updates translations

The menubar is now displayed only when the shell displays it, sparse files are correctly extracted by the libarchive library, org.gnome.FileRoller.desktop got an update for MimeType, the "[" character is now supported when extracting archives using the unrar utility, and p7zip 15.09 is now correctly recognized.

Additionally, deprecated widgets were removed from .ui files, support for the official Debian package MimeType was added, the message dialog will no longer display a (null) string, and a configure environment variable was implemented to allow the selection of the cpio path.

Numerous language translations were updated in File-Roller 3.19.1, among which we can mention Arabic, Turkish, Norwegian Bokmal, Slovak, Brazilian Portuguese, Aragonés, German, Spanish (Castellano), Latvian, Persian, Suomi, Czech, and Vietnamese. Various documentation typos were fixed as well.

Moreover, the Brazilian Portuguese, Czech, Spanish (Castellano) and German manual translations were updated too. You can download File-Roller 3.19.1 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
