Video game developer EA Sports is announcing that Shinji Kagawa, who is currently one of the star players for Borussia Dortmund, is the player selected to join Barcelona leader Lionel Messi on the cover of the upcoming FIFA 16 in Japan.

The player also had a stint at Manchester United and is well known for his vision and his solid passing game, which allow him to be the primary playmaker of the team but also give him options when it comes to scoring goals.

Shinji Kagawa was named the Asian Footballer of the Year by the continental federation in 2012 and has also played well for his national team.

Today or in a few days, the team at EA Sports is set to announce the player who will be joining Lionel Messi on the cover of FIFA 16 in other markets, some of them chosen by the gamers themselves by playing FIFA 15 and by showing their support.

The localized covers for the next installment in the football simulation series are a way to make sure that each fan, no matter his country of origin, can identify with a particular star.

Their importance tends to decrease as more titles are offered via digital distribution and have no physical presence in the life of a gamer.

FIFA 16 aims to improve all features of the series

During E3 2015 the development team offered a range of details about the way the core gameplay is being improved, with the player getting more options for each situation he might face on the pitch.

FIFA 16 gives defenders new ways to deal with players who have the ball, and the entire team can be used as a unit to limit available space and slow down attacks.

In midfield, there are more options for passes and gamers can choose to attempt no touch dribbling with any player, although solid results will be delivered by those who have solid technique.

Attackers can now execute more moves to create space and also have options when they deliver a shot on goal.

EA Sports has not yet offered a clear look at the Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 16 but has suggested that some improvements are being included.

The new football simulation will be offered on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on September 24 and older home consoles get Legacy versions with limited feature sets.
