After proposing the transition from the Python 3.4 to the Python 3.5 stack for the upcoming Fedora 24 Linux distribution, Jan Kurik comes today with a new proposal, the update of the NetworkManager packages to version 1.2.

NetworkManager 1.2 is currently under heavy development, but when the final version hits the streets, later this year, it will introduce numerous enhancements and new features that are often requested by users of the Fedora Linux kernel-based operating system.

Among some of its highlights, we can mention port to GDBus, the addition of a new VPN (Virtual Private Network), services plugin API (Application Programming Interface), support for colors, as well as of a new libnma library for GUIs (Graphical User Interfaces).

Furhermore, NetworkManager 1.2 will offer support for multiple VPN connections using only a single plugin, command completion improvements, ports of the VPN plugins to the libnma and libnm libraries, and the ability to edit VPN connections using the text-based user interface.

There will also be support for managing Docker and LXC container connectivity, support for random software device hierarchy, including VLAN, Bridge, Bond, or Team, various command-line improvements, RFC7217 stable privacy addressing, as well as a command-line secret agent that includes support for VPN secrets.

Fedora 24 to be released on mid-May 2016

As we reported last week, Fedora Project published the initial release schedule of the upcoming Fedora 24 Linux distribution, which revealed the fact that the final build would be unveiled in mid-May 2016. Until then, users will be able to test the Alpha build on March 1, and the Beta version on April 12.

Rest assured that more proposals for the Fedora 24 Linux operating system will be published in the next weeks and months, with even more attractive changes, so make sure that you keep an eye open on our Softpedia Linux Homepage and the dedicated news section.
