Microsoft continues to keep its Windows Phone applications up to date, even though these updates don't come as often as users would want.

The latest Facebook-branded application to receive an update is Messenger. The new version of the application hasn't been officially announced by developers, but the listing on Windows Store mentions a new version is now available for download.

The good news is that the new version of Messenger for Windows Phone comes with an official changelog attached to it. That's quite unusual since the latest version of the Windows Store has some issues in displaying changelogs for the latest releases published by developers.

But that's not the case here since the Messenger version 11.0.1.0 has its own changelog posted on Windows Store. According to this changelog, Facebook did some tweaking and added some bug fixes in the latest version of Messenger.

See when messages are delivered and read

For example, Messenger users will now be able to see when their messages are delivered and seen. Also, the application should now send and receive messages much faster.

Messenger users will also be able to see when they are connected or still connecting. Another improvement to the messaging app will allow messages a user sends to finish sending even when the application is closed.

As mentioned earlier, developers also included some bug fixes. According to Microsoft, the update should fix a lot of issues to make Messenger more reliable.

Even though there are still a lot of other things that need to be improved or added, it's great that Microsoft is trying to build an app that is on par with Android and iOS versions developed by Facebook.

If you don't have the application yet, you can now download Messenger for Windows Phone for free via Windows Store. Keep in mind that the application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.
